The Francis Faki Amanquah Foundation (FFAF) has presented a scholarship package to five exceptional female students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, for their outstanding academic prowess in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. The presentation ceremony was held at the Council Chamber of the University on the 20th February 2024.
The Founder and CEO of the Foundation, Mrs. Mercy Bruce-Amanquah, emphasised the Foundation's commitment to promoting women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. She disclosed that the late Francis Faki Amanquah’s belief in education as the way to transform lives led to the establishment of the Foundation in his memory.
She added that the Foundation will provide mentorships to talented girls studying Computer Science and Computer Engineering at KNUST with financial needs. “We believe that the scholarship award will help transform the lives of recipients so that they can also, in turn, transform the lives of their immediate families and communities,” she remarked.
Mrs. Amanquah, accompanied by some members of the Foundation including, Dr. Oona Nanka-Bruce, Mr. Djabanor Narh, Dr. Mercy Opare-Addo and Mrs. Mina Narh, presented the scholarships to the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are, Mohammed Suraiya, Esther Efua Acquandoh, studying Computer Science and Afua Twumasi Britwum, Grace-Lilie Acheampong, and Ernestina Afriyie Amoako, reading Computer Engineering, for their remarkable academic performance.
Each beneficiary received a comprehensive scholarship, including tuition fees, accommodation, stipend, and a laptop from the Foundation.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, commended the Foundation's initiative, emphasising KNUST's dedication to nurturing professionals capable of addressing global challenges. She urged the beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity and later contribute to the betterment of society.
Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), highlighted the transformative potential of the scholarships and encouraged the recipients to remain focused and resilient in their academic pursuits.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Afua Twumasi Britwum thanked the Francis Faki Amanquah Foundation for alleviating their financial burden and empowering them to pursue their academic dreams.
